State of the Network

I think I might actually follow through and write this in spite of an audience of none because there’s a chance it will help me organize thoughts.

I have a lot of computers. It’s a glut of computers. Very few are necessary. Most did provide some interest and/or entertainment and I consider that legit value but perhaps only temporarily.

I started a couple efforts or projects to remove some, either from inventory or more particularly from daily rotation and really almost succeeded but did not. And then I got rid of one and literally gained six more, primarily because 3 or 4 were an interesting project and the other two were such unique oddities I had to get my hands on a couple of them.

Could tell you all about them. Probably will. Just because.

But the idea is that, I eliminated two PCs from the sort of ‘active setup’ or ‘nearly daily use’ and then… I guess I genuinely thought I’d be happier with it and I’m not. First mention will be the “very long cable” project which was a terrible bitch and almost entirely not worth it, but was interesting! That’s the one right now I’m just really failing to see the value in.

And the return window for the parts involved has closed…

More later.
